The quoted text I think erred in portraying cultural constraints as mainly applying to women. People of *any* gender are going to have problems if they ukgift experiences have an appearance that transgresses social norms. If you are a woman, it is a bit easier to push outside of the accepted norms, but then there are other areas in which women have a lot more sartorial latitude than men.
