conditioners contain eneough detergents, they keep my nappy hair soft and gets my hair clean without pain or stress. i wish my mom had used that instead of a relaxer. She's a happy child, that's wonderful! I think it is very cool that you are educating yourself about how to care for her hair. I am a Black woman, my hair is all natural, my hair's texture is identical to Emma's. I have found that washing my hair with conditioner (Suave Tropical Coconut is my favorite) instead of regular shampoo has really been the best thing Ive done. My hair loves this. It is much more moisturized and has more elasticity than ever before. If I do use shampoo (rarely) I always make sure to dilute it (4:1 or sometimes 8:1 water to shampoo ratio) and condition immediately afterwards.
