It may be a little simple for some. One of the other reviews mentions the "inside-out french braid" is used for cornrows. Something like loose cornrows that would include bangs (that are growing out). I read all the reviews for this book and was encouraged. However, what I found was something straight outta 1985. Softly-lit models with braids that all start with a ponytail and are slightly messy/ casual. |

In that, I was disappointed. However, if you're black hairstyles new to braiding or doing girls' hair, this book has some great instructions and illustrations. It's not very helpful if you're trying to do your own hair. Braids only figure in about half of the styles; the rest are buns and up-dos. Most of the styles are variations on a theme: the bun, the braided bun, the french-braided bun. The rope, the rope bun, the french rope bun... you get the picture. The main styles you will learn in this book are: The bun The twist The roll and of course, the braid Subsets of the braid are: the herringbone the rope and of course, the french braid (and french herringbone, and french rope...) |
